Well now folks, this is my first little post. I have been working on my website and couldn’t leave this section blank for too long. what would people think? let me say, thank goodness for Grammarly
I will be writing a bunch of nonsense for the most part, this will be no different.
Let me start at the beginning. I am a very typical person, who struggles with my attention and memory. You had better believe I am all too familiar with the term “Doom Scrolling”. Which is the simple act of spending way too much time scrolling through apps on my phone such as Instagram or Youtube. What a glorious way to spend your life.
AHA, this video explains how if you do it as much as the average person, you end up spending 15 years of your life on your device. Considering no one knows how much time they have, what a scary thought.
Something that I have tried from time is using a dumb phone. for those new to the party, a dumb phone is a nonsmart phone, similar to how phones used to be. The idea is that it makes using your phone so painful, you actually don’t use it all. Dumb phones have really basic things but barely anything on top of calling and texting. I have used many phones in my day, including dumbphones. I always seem to go back to the excitement of a smartphone. It seems to be too enticing to have a world of information and media in my pocket.
Simple life
Something about myself is that I one day plan to be without a phone completely. A strange thought I know. But my aim is to simplify my life (more on this at a later date). I am now in my transition phase, I have purchased a new dumb phone. The one I got is a good old flip phone which I purchased from JB HIFI. The Opel TouchFlip seems to be one of the best Dumb phones I have tried. It comes with WhatsApp and has wifi. Not being able to communicate via Whatsapp is likely something that I haven’t liked about these phones in the past.
Friction
There is good and bad friction with these types of phones. The point of them really is to create friction and help to use my phone less. Luckily with this model, some of the bad friction has been removed. Notably, having Whatsapp and a usable T9 keyboard. It’s actually the first usable T9 keyboard I’ve used since the OG Nokia days. And that says a lot.
So Far, So Good
I haven’t been using it for long, about 2 days. But all the signs are positive. I will try my darndest to update you all with a post in the future. Until then, I wish you well.
